Delicious Dishes: Tep's Drive In

When summertime hits, many of us look for a great summer treat that's sure to fill our stomachs with happiness. Well, I ventured out to Tep's Drive In in Augusta, Wisconsin to see what I could find. I believe the pictures speak for themselves on how you can spend summer with the family.

Tep's Drive In began serving food in 1948. Although it's
operated under a few different names it's definitely an original in Western Wisconsin. The place works like a carhop, which means a waitress will take your order and bring your food to the car.

I started my adventure by ordering their taco fries. You can see from the picture above how they're served. It comes with ground beef, nachos cheese, tomato, salsa and sour cream with taco seasoning on top. Then I tried the single "Western Burger" which is picture on the right. To my surprise it came with two patties, cheese, lettuce, bbq sauce, onions and bacon. It was as good as the picture looks too.

Of course, I couldn't come to an old fashioned carhop without trying some old fashioned ice-cream. It's definitely a creative fest when it comes to desserts.  So I tried the "Upside Banana  Split," which comes with pineapple, strawberry and fudge topping. As you can tell it's not your ordinary banana split, which makes it fun to eat!

Then, I tried the "Smore's Sundae," because you can't go wrong with smores in the title. It comes with twisted vanilla and chocolate ice-cream (I just got vanilla), graham cracker crust, chocolate sauce and marshmallow fluff. Now you can feel like you're sitting by a campfire! If you want to find Tep's Drive In, you can find it off Highway 12 in Augusta, Wisconsin.

Apple Mango Chicken Wraps

With summer on our doorstep, it's the best time to eat something refreshing with either lunch or dinner. Then, I came up with this wrap where it combines all sorts of flavors that will leave your tastebuds satisfied.

   Apple Mango Chicken Wraps Ingredients
- 1 apple (I used Braeburn)
- 1 Mango
- Lettuce
- Tortillas
- 3 Chicken Breasts
- Sesame Ginger Dressing
                                                                                           - Salt & pepper to taste
                                                                                            Servings: 4 wraps

Start by heating up a medium sized pan with a few tbs. of Olive oil and chop the thawed chicken breasts into cubes. Then, cook the chicken breasts. Once they're done, now it's time to slice up our fruit for our wraps.

When slicing the apples and mango, slice everything into thin slices. Feel free to add as much apple and mango to your wrap. Now, lay out your tortilla and add the chicken, mango and apple slices.
Finally its time to top it off with the lettuce and Sesame Ginger dressing. Then roll it up into a wrap. Feel free to slice the wrap in half to see all the goodness you're about to enjoy.

So take this wrap to the park for a picnic or even the beach and sip on some lemonade. You will feel refreshed and want to make this recipe again.

Freedom Sparkler

It's that time of year again to celebrate the 4th of July. But whether you plan to stay at home or have a backyard picnic, you need something that's patriotic and refreshing to drink.
So I have a special drink to share called a “Freedom Sparkler,” that’s patriotic, easy, and refreshing for summer that I even showed on WEAU 13 News.

       Freedom Sparkler Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. Sparkling Grape Juice
- 1/3 c. Cranberry Pomegranate Juice
- 2 tbs. Lemonade Concentrate
- Blue sprinkles
- Frozen blueberries
- Strawberries for garnish

Start by taking a small plate and sprinkle some blue sprinkles on it. Then you take another plate and add water to it.

You want to coat the rim of the glass with the water to help the sprinkles stick to the glass. Then press the glass to the plate and you can press the sprinkles around the glass to help add more.

Next, mix in a bowl 1 1/2 c. of Sparkling Grape Juice, 1/3 c. of Cranberry Pomegranate Juice, 2 tbs. of Lemonade Concentrate. The recipe makes only 2 glasses, so feel free to double or triple to fill an entire punch bowl.  Then, pour the mixture into a glass. I recommend ladling it into your glass. This way the rim of sprinkles doesn't get ruined.

To top it all off take frozen blueberries and place them in your glass. They will serve as ice cubes, to avoid the drink getting too watered down. Plus it makes the drink look more festive.

Finally, slice a strawberry just enough so there's  a slit.  Then add it to the rim and you have a Freedom Sparkler!
